I just noticed that if I ping -f localhost, I get all of 40 packets/sec. I should be seeing 1000 or more. And the ping command doesn't show up on 'top' ... it's consuming no time. vmstat doesn't show anything too odd ... (neither does top) .. Ugh. I've been trying to figure this out all day long.
