   Hi, Ken. I'm having the same problem here with a new Tyan 1836DLUAN.
Same deal - 7895 chip on the motherboard and an Ultra-2 (LVD) Seagate
Cheetah is probing at 10Mhz rather than 40Mhz. On boot -v, it reports:

   The Adaptec BIOS is configured properly - all drives are set for 40Mhz
