Last night, I tried installing 3.2-R on a Thinkpad 770z. I started up with the boot floppies (using the floppy drive mounted in the base station) and installed via FTP (using a 3c590 installed in the base station). The install went smoothly, except where it complained that part of the X distribution wasn't available on the server(?). Then I rebooted from the hard drive. Part way through the boot process, the computer emitted half a dozen beeps and locked up. I thought that perhaps it was probing something it shouldn't be, but on subsequent attempts it locked up at different points in the boot process. I tried looking around in the visual config to make sure that was set up right, but it beeped and locked up while I was in there, too. What could possibly be happening? What can I do to fix it? And why am I having this problem booting, when it booted perfectly off the floppies?
