It's the average size of the transfers.  FreeBSD is limited to 128
kB/t, but in practice never goes beyond 64 kB.

This might be a DPT problem.

What are the *relevant* lines of your dmesg output?  What kind of DPT
controller do you have?  It may be that it's not handling 64 kB
transfers correctly.
