I would think that your P90 with 28Mbytes should work fine as a natd server. I 
am using a 486/33 with 8Mb as a natd/firewall machine connected to my cable
modem and have seen transfer speeds over 160Kbytes/s (sustained for several
minutes) through that box. I have 4 machines on the "inside" but they are
seldom in use all at once.
