Hi all, I am after some "yes! the bloody thing works!" or "dang, what a dud!" type responses from people using FreeBSD with Compaq SMART disk controllers in production environments. I don't particularly like BSD/OS but its SMART controller support seems quite good (even has pretty userland utilities). We have a number of long-term customers with FreeBSD systems installed by us looking to upgrade (hardware/freebsd). Having read the 3.4 release notes it seems all mention of Compaq SMART support has disappeared but I presume the ida driver is still in there somewhere? Is it ever going to make it into GENERIC? Anyway, I think I've worked out (by searching the archives) how to build a boot floppy to support the controller for installation onto a mirrored pair but I'm still interested in hearing about what other people have discovered. Please let me know Compaq model and FreeBSD version. I will post a summary (if possible) to the list. Anyone got anything heavy duty happening on one of these puppies? cheers!
