I loaded FreeBSD 2.1.0 (in a user configuration) on a computer with about a 500MB drive in a dual boot mode with DOS. Both BSD and DOS work well. When I tried to load BSD on another computer (dual boot mode) with a 1083.8 MB drive the system seems to load but will not boot. Some preliminary verbage is displayed and then the "Boot:" is displayed (seems normal so far). Then the "bar" is displayed but does not "spin" - the system just hangs. Yes, DOS still boots! The controller is a Promise EIDE2300 PLUS VESA Local Bus with on board BIOS that takes over the hard disk fuctions from the mother board BIOS. The disk drive is a Western Digital Caviar AC21000. This combination works well with DOS and Windows 3.1 . I realise that this disk controller is not on the "supported" list, but does anyone have any ideas? Has anyone used this controller with FreeBSD? Or any compatable drivers? Art Hack alhack@am.pnu.com
