Proprietary C compilers.

FreeBSD could have had a more visible presence, with banners,
at "Windows Refund Day", for example.  A more coordinated
effort and showing of unity by the community could have been
a large press coup that got FreeBSD dragged along with the Linux
crowd.

As to for whom, for FreeBSD and the FreeBSD community, of course.
