Hello all.

I have the same kind of problems when using StarOffice 5.1 with linux
port and FreeBSD.

My solution was to install Linux, install staroffice from the original
CD,
than take a "snapshot" from it with the libraries and make a "freebsd
package" along with the linux libs. This libs make staroffice respond
to accent characters like: ç ã õ... indeed I am using starmail to put
this email in the list.
The Staroffice (in pkg_add format are at:
ftp://200.215.24.176/packages/All/Staroffice-5.5.1.tgz)
along with the linux-base 5.2 and the linux-compat-br-1.0 package that
make staroffice accent.

Of course, this Staroffice is for my native language (portuguese), but
if you need and english version I can build one next week. (please
bother me).

Hope this can help.
