The system just hangs solid at random: ad4: 13042MB <WDC WD136BA> [26500/16/63] at ata2-master using UDMA66 It works fine on UDMA33. I notice that you have ad2 and ad3 running in UDMA66 mode. I didn't realise this was possible; I'll experiment.
