OK, I'm an idiot. I hit ctl-alt-F2, my X session got hidden, and
ttyv1 popped up -- all good. I finished my little experimentation...
and I can't get back to X. When I hit alt-F1, I just see the text
that gets spewed by the X server before it takes over, things like

BTW, I log in in text mode, and start X with xstart.

I *promise* I looked before asking here (lynx to the handbook, the
pcvt and screen man pages), but I couldn't find an answer: is there
a way to make the X server come back?
