Hmmm, sheesh, gosh! So, I entered what I thought was http://www.freebsd.org/ in my browser, and here comes this weird page full of banners, plus a JavaScript pop-up window (gosh, I hate those!). And I'm wondering what the heck happened. Then I noticed I mistyped. The site was actually http://www.frebsd.org/ (just one 'e'). Looks to me someone is trying to cash in on FreeBSD's good name, and hoping others will mistype just as I did. Strangely enough, this someone is anonymous. Here's what whois has to say: --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Whois Server Version 1.3 Domain names in the .com, .net, and .org domains can now be registered with many different competing registrars. Go to http://www.internic.net for detailed information. Domain Name: FREBSD.ORG Registrar: NETWORK SOLUTIONS, INC. Whois Server: whois.networksolutions.com Referral URL: www.networksolutions.com Name Server: ORANGE.IDIRECTIONS.COM Name Server: GREEN.IDIRECTIONS.COM Updated Date: 02-oct-2000 >>> Last update of whois database: Thu, 26 Oct 2000 06:47:54 EDT <<< The Registry database contains ONLY .COM, .NET, .ORG, .EDU domains and Registrars. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now, isn't that special?
