Hello,

I am about to purchase a new laptop with a following specs:

 * 20 G Hard Drive
 * Sound Card with DTS/PCM out (dolby digital 6-channel (5.1) optical output)
 * 8x DVD
 * 15.1+ SVGA+ screen (1280x1024 or more) ... (1600x1200 would be really nice)
 * 16 M video ram
 * LS120

Basically, I need a new laptop for school/work/home entertainment. I'll be
running -stable, XEmacs, apsfilter and Divx :-) Thats about it.

I have considered Gateway 9xxx, Dell Inspiron 5000x, M-Tech and others. It
comes down to be ~ $3000.

Blah, blah blah ... here is my question. 2 of them:

 1) Do guys think getting an extended warranty / service plans is a good idea?
 2) Has anyone (used_one || needed_one) before?
 3) Has anyone (used_one && needed_one) before?
 4) What machine would you recommend?

Thank you,

d
