Regardless, this doesn't affect the situation I was talking about: my
two independent subjects were comparing the quality of PAL video on my
TV (which is actually sub-optimal quality because of very slight
display artefacts in the picture tube) with their experience of NTSC
on presumably similar-quality NTSC equipment.
