Firstly, last time there was a security problem with BIND (nxt bug) lots of people failed to stop the old server when they upgraded. This may be the case here. Now if you can find the core please run strings - named.core | grep named If this reports 8.2.3-REL open a bug report with ISC, bind-bugs@isc.org, and I'll take it from there.
