I don't think that Bill Paul (the WRS chap I was goading to work on 
FireWire) has done anything on this lately.

At this point in time, if you're not up to coding on this project, 
there's not much to be done, I'm afraid.  It needs a lot of development 
work before it'll be ready for anything resembling testing.
