The one I heard was that Gary didn't want to meet them and went out flying. Does anybody know when this was? I was at a conference in London in early September 1980, and Gary and Bill Gates ("who?" I asked; I knew very well who Gary was) were supposed to be there, Bill to talk about the new Microsoft Operating System, XENIX (I kid you not). "Inventing" Ctrl-Alt-Del was simply a matter of finding a new mapping for the function.
