Ok... If the buttons work, you should be able to select text by
dragging with the left button, extend your selection with the right
button, and send the currently highlighted text as keystrokes (paste,
in other words) with the middle mouse button. (Or, if you have a two
button mouse, by pressing both buttons simultaneously).

If the buttons don't work, you won't be able to highlight text.
