I got my Netra X1 to successfully boot off of the IDE drive by following the
advice at:

  http://docs.freebsd.org/cgi/getmsg.cgi?fetch=12853+0+archive/2002/freebsd-sparc/20020421.freebsd-sparc

to dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/ad0 count=16 *before* disklabeling. That seems to
have made all the difference. 

In any case, the box boots fine, however I can't try to cvsup as the on-board,
dual ethernet ports (hme) don't seem to be recognized. dmesg output below:
