Version 1.11.2 (which I believe was the previous tar shipped with FreeBSD) just ignores the trailing dot while v1.13.25 picks it up and uses it, ignoring -T option. > Re & &&, other shells (ksh, and I believe sh on other OS flavors) > have never taken it.
