Howdy,

Some time ago core discussed some guidelines on commit bit=20
requests that should help getting the commit approval process streamlined.

So, here is a request to produce a sensible web page for inclusion under
http://www.freebsd.org/internal with these guidelines. =20

Please see text below.

thanks,
Wilko

In order to streamline the commit bit request process somewhat
please follow the following guidelines when approaching core@
with a request:

- Apart from the name of the proposed committer please also
  supply his/her email address;

- If you are not mentoring the proposed committer yourself please
  arrange for one before approaching core;

- It is worthwhile to consult the resident guru/maintainer on the
  area the new committer will start to work on;
  Please state whether you have done so, or why you haven't.

- A mentor should 'fit' the area a new committer will start to work
  on. E.g. a new committer working on networking in general is not well ser=
ved
  by a CAM-specialist as mentor. Of course a good generalist mentor=20
  who can guide the mentee to find the right gurus for review is also
  acceptable;

- Consider time zones when finding a mentor. For practical reasons
  mentor and mentee being awake at roughly the same times often helps.
  This is not a strict requirement, rather it serves as a=20

- Please provide background info on prior work etc so that core
  can get a good idea of the proposed.

- Core reserves the right to push back on voting until the sponsor
  brings a case that reasonably adheres to the guidelines above.
