I too have problems with a MA401RA. Different ones. At least it works for me. Relevant bits of my set up are a Netgear ME102 access point, a Fujitsu Siemens S Series Lifebook with a MA401, and a Sharp Zaurus with a Linksys CF card. With the ME102 configured to accept both Open and WEP security, the MA401RA works like a charm under FreeBSD. With the ME102 configured to accept only WEP security, the MA401RA can obviously see the access point, but can't transmit. Under Windows 98 (spit) the MA401RA can't transmit with either of the above variations. This might be due to Windows crashing when I was installing the drivers. I installed again, but am not convinced that all is well. Time perhaps to upgrade to Windows 2000 Professional or XP. The Zaurus / Linksys work happily with both variations. The lifebook is running FreeBSD 4.7-RC #1: Wed Oct 2 10:32:41 BST 2002 wio says this as it attaches: wi0 at port 0x240-0x27f irq 9 slot 0 on pccard0 wi0: 802.11 address: 00:09:5b:24:de:d2 wi0: using RF:PRISM2.5 MAC:ISL3873 wi0: Intersil Firmware: Primary 1.00.07, Station 1.03.06 interface configuration: aw1@mervyn /home/aw1$ cat /etc/start_if.wi0 # this works - when access point is set to support open and shared, but fails if ap is set to shared only, um! /sbin/ifconfig wi0 authmode shared ssid CENSORED wepkey 1:0xCENSORED wepmode mixed weptxkey 1 aw1@mervyn /home/aw1$ ifconfig wi0 wi0: flags=8843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 inet6 fe80::209:5bff:fe24:ded2%wi0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x7 inet 192.168.0.3 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.0.255 ether 00:09:5b:24:de:d2 media: IEEE 802.11 Wireless Ethernet autoselect (DS/11Mbps) status: associated ssid CENSORED 1:CENSORED stationname "FreeBSD WaveLAN/IEEE node" channel 1 authmode SHARED powersavemode OFF powersavesleep 100 wepmode MIXED weptxkey 1 wepkey 1:128-bit aw1@mervyn /home/aw1$ wicontrol wi0 NIC serial number: [ 99SA01000000 ] Station name: [ FreeBSD WaveLAN/IEEE node ] SSID for IBSS creation: [ CENSORED ] Current netname (SSID): [ CENSORED ] Desired netname (SSID): [ CENSORED ] Current BSSID: [ 00:30:ab:1c:04:ae ] Channel list: [ 8191 ] IBSS channel: [ 3 ] Current channel: [ 1 ] Comms quality/signal/noise: [ 68 121 6 ] Promiscuous mode: [ Off ] Process 802.11b Frame: [ Off ] Intersil-Prism2 based card: [ 1 ] Port type (1=BSS, 3=ad-hoc): [ 1 ] MAC address: [ 00:09:5b:24:de:d2 ] TX rate (selection): [ 3 ] TX rate (actual speed): [ 11 ] RTS/CTS handshake threshold: [ 2347 ] Create IBSS: [ Off ] Access point density: [ 1 ] Power Mgmt (1=on, 0=off): [ 0 ] Max sleep time: [ 100 ] WEP encryption: [ On ] TX encryption key: [ 1 ] Encryption keys: [ ][ ][ ][ ] I am fairly sure that I have the key correct. -- Adrian Wontroba To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-mobile" in the body of the message
