Subject: distfiles auto cleanup on port upgrade?

I think installed ports should record the distfiles used to install
them, that way when a port is upgraded the old now useless distfiles
can be automagically deleted.

I'd love to supply patches for this but the learning curve to actually
facilitate this looks too steep for someone not very familiar with
ports/packages/portupgrade.

thanks,
