Yesterday the system stopped to work. When I rebooted, the Adaptec' BIOS
printed the following error message:

'Incorrect cable or improper termination... please rectify' (or something
similar I don't remember exactly)

Then, I unplugged the hd cooler and a small fan over the Matrox MGA-200 chi=
p,
which were both attached to the IBM disks' power cable. Now the system seem=
s to
be fully functional. I have ran dd on both disks for several minutes without
problems. Though this test is not sufficient to claim that the problem is
solved, I suspect so, because I think that the 'improper termination' error=
 was
due to an electrical problem caused by a failing fan.
