Do a port{upgrade|install} -vR ghostscript-{gnu|afpl} according to your version of GS, and it should work. If the crash still occurs, be sure to rebuild any lib/app GS depends on. I did many tests on 4.X and 5.X and it was always the same problem/solution. This solution explain, now, why some people never experimented the crash.
