FWIW, for people trying to generate INDEX, if they delete the "SUBDIR += clean" in /usr/ports/sysutils/Makefile and then run "make index", they are back to 9285 ports instead of 7245. This isn't a fix for the problem but a temporary work around for people trying cvsup ports-all and then create an almost complete new INDEX.
