I'm attempting to install gaim-0.73 on my 5.2 RC-1 system. However, it's got some older dependency requirements such as: desk# pkg_add -r gaim Fetching ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ports/i386/packages-current/Latest/gaim.tbz... Done. Fetching ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ports/i386/packages-current/All/libao-0.8.4_1.tbz... Done. Fetching ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ports/i386/packages-current/All/gtkspell2-2.0.4.tbz... Done. pkg_add: warning: package 'gtkspell2-2.0.4' requires 'png-1.2.5_2', but 'png-1.2.5_3' is installed pkg_add: warning: package 'gtkspell2-2.0.4' requires 'tiff-3.6.0', but 'tiff-3.6.0_1' is installed pkg_add: warning: package 'gtkspell2-2.0.4' requires 'imake-4.3.0_1', but 'imake-4.3.0_2' is installed pkg_add: warning: package 'gaim-0.73' requires 'png-1.2.5_2', but 'png-1.2.5_3' is installed pkg_add: warning: package 'gaim-0.73' requires 'libaudiofile-0.2.4', but 'libaudiofile-0.2.5' is installed pkg_add: warning: package 'gaim-0.73' requires 'tiff-3.6.0', but 'tiff-3.6.0_1' is installed pkg_add: warning: package 'gaim-0.73' requires 'imake-4.3.0_1', but 'imake-4.3.0_2' is installed I assume i can force the install with the -f flag, but I wanted to know if there are any ramifications to doing this on future updates or to future program installs? What is the easiest way to install gaim (or any program for that matter) when a situation such as this arises? What would have happened if I attemted the install via ports instead?
