In search of something more stable than 5.2.1-RELEASE on my laptop Toshiba Satellite S5100-603 http://berklix.com/~jhs/hw/toshiba/s5100-603/ I have ACPI problems there: It will not boot with ACPI turned on, & mostly ignores fxp0: with ACPI turned off, (+ fear if ACPI off, maybe processor fan control may not work optimally & processor might overheat ?) ... & not wanting to go back to 4.x ) /pub/FreeBSD/branches/4.0-stable exists /pub/FreeBSD/branches/5.0-stable does not. cvs -R export -r RELENG_5_2 src produces a kernel that installs, boots single user, & reports 5.2.1-p9, but hangs just after "Setting hostname" (OK, I havent done a make world yet, that;s now running single user) Anyway, it seems those CVSUP users have a luxury we CTM users don't have: they get to have a more recent kernel, why is that ? Is it lack of human resources to config a new CTM feed, lack of generator machine resources (I could contribute there) ? or is it lack of some CVS tag ? (but if its lack of some CVS tag, how come those CVSUP users get a P9, & we CTM users need to run cvs after receiving the cvs tree by ctm, why can't we have a CTM 5 stable feed. The cvsup folk already have something useful for them. /usr/cvs/src/Makefile,v has: RELENG_5_0:1.271.0.2 RELENG_4:1.234.0.2 RELENG_4_0_0_RELEASE:1.234 RELENG_4_10:1.234.2.19.0.4 RELENG_4_10_0_RELEASE:1.234.2.19 RELENG_4_10_BP:1.234.2.19 RELENG_4_1_0_RELEASE:1.234 RELENG_4_1_1_RELEASE:1.234.2.1 RELENG_4_2_0_RELEASE:1.234.2.3 RELENG_4_3:1.234.2.9.0.2 RELENG_4_3_0_RELEASE:1.234.2.9 RELENG_4_3_BP:1.234.2.9 RELENG_4_4:1.234.2.10.0.2 RELENG_4_4_0_RELEASE:1.234.2.10 RELENG_4_4_BP:1.234.2.10 RELENG_4_5:1.234.2.10.0.4 RELENG_4_5_0_RELEASE:1.234.2.10 RELENG_4_5_BP:1.234.2.10 RELENG_4_6:1.234.2.12.0.2 RELENG_4_6_0_RELEASE:1.234.2.12 RELENG_4_6_1_RELEASE:1.234.2.12 RELENG_4_6_2_RELEASE:1.234.2.12 RELENG_4_6_BP:1.234.2.12 RELENG_4_7:1.234.2.18.0.2 RELENG_5_0_0_RELEASE:1.271 RELENG_5_0_BP:1.271 RELENG_5_1:1.280.0.2 RELENG_5_1_0_RELEASE:1.280 RELENG_5_1_BP:1.280 RELENG_5_2:1.291.0.2 RELENG_5_2_0_RELEASE:1.291 RELENG_5_2_1_RELEASE:1.291 RELENG_5_2_BP:1.291 - Julian Stacey.
