Next step > was playing around with those two variables sorry for not being clear enough and (possibly) wasting some of your time. the thing to do is not (only) to disable dri in X-Conf, but to remove device radeondrm from your kernel, and make sure the radeon.ko is not loaded. if that doesn't fix things, i am out of ideas. cheers, t.
