You shouldn't lose any settings unless someone has screwed up (I usually hold-off major upgrades for a week or so to catch immediate bug-fixes). There are instructions here: http://freebsd.kde.org/instructions.php Note that you will need to set PACKAGESITE to a source of the new packages otherwise you will simply reinstall to old version. I used to use the fruitsalad servers, although I build KDE from ports these days.
