To get ICH audio to work on my system, I had to include the following in my kernel: # Sound card device smbus device ichsmb device smb device sound device snd_ich I believe the System Management bus is required for the AC97 attachment. With those, it just worked, but YMMV. (But another ICH system also incudes iicbus, iicbb, and intpm. Not sure why anymore. I suspect that these are not REALLY for sound.) -- R.
