There's just too much that doesn't work with it anymore and it's easy for people to install perl from ports, also on 4.x. I think people really should consider moving to 5.8.7. Even 5.6.x is quite old now, 5.0x goes back to the stone age. Keeping support for the rest of the 4.x lifetime will be too big a PITA.
