Subject: dead keyboard in Xorg

I've installed FreeBSD 6.1 release on a Tyan K8SR
motherboard and then updated to RELENG_6.

I've installed the Xorg 6.9.0 port and fired up
the server where the graphics are from the builtin
ATI Rage chip. Everything comes up as expected
and the ps/2 mouse works.

However, the keyboard is dead. I can get an xterm
up, give it focus, but typing yields nothing. Killing
X reveals a bunch of gibberish on the console (ie.,
extended ascii characters).

I have tried 2 different ps/2 keyboards and two
different ps/2 mice. I've enable/disabled the
kbdmux and I've set atkbd flags in /boot/device.hints.

Nothing has given me a working keyboard.

I've also played with numerous xorg.conf files
trying to isolate the problem. I'm stuck.

Anyone seen this type of problem?
