This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --Boundary_(ID_+uSUWoXMhMdxWtkx1pmDMA) Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT Hello, I'm still trying to get this laptop working at a reasonable level with FreeBSD. For my experiences with FreeBSD 6.1-stable, see earlier posts on this mailing list. My main goal is to make the wireless in this laptop work. Since it was reported on this list that the experimental Interl PRO/Wireless 3945 driver works with -current, I tried installing the July snapshot of -current (7.0-CURRENT-200607-i386-disc1.iso) on the machine. The install went well, and the dmesg output (attached) indicates that it has the same problems as under 6.1, so I tried the recipe I use there, namely hint.acpi.0.disabled="1" hw.pci4.0.INTA.irq="18" in /boot/loader.conf (or typed at the boot loader prompt). I ecen tried with just the 'hint.acpi.0.disabled=1' line; but it doesn't make a difference. The machine hangs solid (or stops in boot) when acpi is disabled. Here are the last lines of a vebose boot, transcribed from the screen: isa_probe_children: probing PnP devices unknown: <PNP0303> can't assign resources (port) unknown: <PNP0303> at port 0x60 pnpid PNP0303 on isa0 unknown: <PNP0800> failed to probe at port 0x61 pnpid PNP0800 on isa0 unknown: <PNP0c02> can't assign resources (memory) unknown: <PNP0c02> at iomem 0xe0000-0xe17ff pnpid PNP0c02 on isa0 unknown: <PNP0c02> can't assign resources (memory) unknown: <PNP0c02> at iomem 0xdf800-0xdffff pnpid PNP0c02 on isa0 unknown: <INT0800> can't assign resources (memory) unknown: <INT0800> pnpid INT0800 on isa0 I don't *know* that the above lines have anything to do with the hang; I only suspect that. But when the machine doesn't boot I do not know how to debug this problem further. Any hints appreciated. -- Regards, Torfinn Ingolfsen, Norway --Boundary_(ID_+uSUWoXMhMdxWtkx1pmDMA) Content-type: text/plain; name=kg-home-dmesg-7.0-current-20060707.txt Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT Content-disposition: attachment; filename=kg-home-dmesg-7.0-current-20060707.txt Copyright (c) 1992-2006 The FreeBSD Project.
