This appears to have helped so far: I just finished the "make
buildworld" & friends on my laptop (a Dell Inspiron 8200 with a mini-PCI
wireless NIC that the wi driver handles); presently running:

localhost(7.0-C)[1] uname -a
FreeBSD localhost 7.0-CURRENT FreeBSD 7.0-CURRENT #264: Mon Dec 11 09:47:47=
 PST 2006 root@localhost:/common/S4/obj/usr/src/sys/LAPTOP_30W i386
localhost(7.0-C)[2]=20

I have the following kernels handy:

localhost(7.0-C)[2] ls -ld /boot/kern*
drwxr-xr-x 2 root wheel 24576 Dec 11 10:13 /boot/kernel
drwxr-xr-x 2 root wheel 24576 Nov 28 09:56 /boot/kernel.old
drwxr-xr-x 2 root wheel 24576 Dec 10 09:45 /boot/kernel.wi-LOR
drwxr-xr-x 2 root wheel 24576 Nov 28 09:56 /boot/kernel.working
localhost(7.0-C)[3]=20

The LOR in question no is no longer apparent; it was apparent in all
kernels from 29 Nov through 10 Dec. (I normally update & build daily.)

I'll plan on givinig it a more strenuous test tomorrow morning -- the
"make buildworld" (while using the wi0 NIC) test.  :-}

And thank you, Sam, for trying to mitigate some of the problems
with the wi(4) driver. :-)

Peace,
david
