The menu may be rendered in a different font than the rest. Squares =20
instead of real symbols sounds like a missing font. So in case this =20
problem persists after the complete upgrade, we need to look at =20
missing stuff (maybe a font is missing in the system or a font path is =20
missing in the linux config).
