Some more information:

The kernel loading process gets to a point where ACPI is about to get
initialized. I'm currently tracing a little bit and so far it ends up that
AcpiEnable() in "contrib/dev/acpica/events/evxfevnt.c" never returns.
Somewhere inside AcpiHwSetMode() something triggers a hardware condition,
which I cannot see where ends up. Any lights go up?
