If you've got it, that will be nice to hear. It was weird. In the past, when I've run into difficulty with EFI boot=20= =20 entries,=20efibootmgr (under Linux) has been my friend. This tool can=20=20 add=20boot entries, change the order in which they are attempted, delete=20= =20 boot=20entries, and probably a few other things. So when grub was still missing, I booted into Linux, ran efibootmgr,=20=20 added=20the entry and tried again. The invocation is very specific. You=20= =20 specify=20the drive *and* the partition the efi file is in. No joy. Any entries I added disappeared by the reboot. And just so=20=20 we're=20clear, rebooting to Linux and running efibootmgr confirmed that=20= =20 the=20entries had disappeared. So I got a Windows recovery disk and tried getting *it* to fix the=20=20 boot.=20I tried just about every option there was on that thing. Still=20= =20 no=20joy. It flatly refused. As to your specific points, the system didn't just come with Windows.=20=20 Dell=20adds a bunch of partitions with various utilities and recovery=20=20 programs.=20But there didn't seem to be any way to access them--unless I=20= =20 got=20grub running. Some of those partitions are msdosfs and I'm pretty=20= =20 sure=20that's what grub-mkconfig was responding to. --=20 David=20Benfell <benfell@parts-unknown.org> --=_ne_lBJ_uGjsUanjZ1f5-VcM Content-Type: application/pgp-signature Content-Description: PGP Digital Signature Content-Disposition: inline -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1 iQIcBAABAgAGBQJVwxcZAAoJEBV64x4SNmArt+4P/2XaihtBDFzZuUal5h2JUNQq fwR5OvblHos+Ez/lbGpnkjQI8Ki+zEuqAlvo/Ph4gT7H5eZUafFnp4VR9E8uQKJW nq9fV+18Tp3RsbXymycbj+kP8XfQcz2KzqVX9YDbn5XyPJVMqTVxjnDRSRTKXoHM TkXM/Y/Ln/cmXPRmLIxL0rGVjCxW3ryw1EoEjvp3yHazMnLce9rbzeoJfrDcvhZY /wJ4ylqdFaE+cAxM0J08y9eDHGK/4HNGIaNP1Gke2isOEg5WdVdDtkjSkL5PgvoN GxuvNyrmzdmPSS3t3GTrvCH/Cs04mPt1BPxocGLYnR0gTlcPhOVXpEFX0a9N/Mdr 7tDKps7YGElAYPPRnfyQT7wj7NEuxF5XHM7lkEuNQaUzGW2Z9gCDimoS4MpwBNSn cYPb39x4sDTpRN/xlAgJ8MWrbc2vX0siOq4Ohg2yWo6HwvKBOu0qsOVtRGaipNpj 5ZJMkcNwoOVy0jGEjKyGFh4/1H0Ny6nY1PopTc/XAa33MLHKRGME56DblNKXjJAv leWLsmfpeFplv0EUUuKgznk22lVyVtvT86zR80rXLfyT9YOKDDhoz00EQnCGAdaC /ned/rDDK5YkYN+fmkEioY886cpi+FqcHrn5ZXho9i+frI4mQX3+wYtsQCSXL0M6 cXm6YSXMZ5UqpdUkpQbo =f+6l -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --=_ne_lBJ_uGjsUanjZ1f5-VcM--
