Hello,
I tried to install release 5.3 from CD without any success. First I had
problems with the USB controllers which I then turned off in the BIOS. This
would let the boot run up to this point:

I don't have any logfiles. Here the system hangs. I tried booting in
fail-safe mode, without APIC, without the onboard SATA Promise controller
(since I planned to install FreeBSD on my ATA harddisk), nothing helps.

Ignore the USB & Promise controllers since those were turned off before I
booted from the installation CD. I do have 1GB of memory (2 x 512MB) with
auto-configuration in BIOS.
This system runs fine under Windows XP, gentoo amd64 and Solaris 10 amd64 so
it shouldn't really be a hardware problem.
