hello out there:

i am trying to connect to my isp using ppp. much to my chagrin, i have
been unable to do so. i have configured my ppp.conf file as per handbook
instructions, and yet nothing happens when i invoke ppp.

this is the command i enter: $ ppp -ddial PAPorCHAPpmdemand

this is what i get in return: Working in ddial mode
                                Using interface: tun0

nothing happens. the modem, which i've seen work before, doesn't make any
noises, no dialtone, dialing, etc. the little lights don't flash any
differently.

heres my ppp.conf file:

default:
set log Phase Chat LCP IPCP CCP tun command
 set device
/dev/cuaa1
 set speed 115200
set dial "ABORT BUSY ABORT NO\\sCARRIER
TIMEOUT 5 \"\" AT OK-AT-OK ATE1Q0 OK \\dATD
pmdemand:
 set phone 3289799

set login "ABORT NO\\sCARRIER TIMEOUT 5 ogin:--ogin: ppp word: ppp"
 set
timeout 120
 set ifaddr 10.0.0.1/0 10.0.0.2/0 255.255.255.0 0.0.0.0
 add
default HISADDR
 enable dns
PAPorCHAPpmdemand:
 set phone 3289799
 set
login
 set authname xxxx
 set authkey xxxx
 set timeout 120
 set ifaddr
10.0.0.1/0 10.0.0.2/0 255.255.255.0 0.0.0.0
 add default HISADDR
 enable dns

any ideas on what i am doing wrong? is the ppp.conf file incorrect? am i
issueing the wrong command at the command line?

also, whats the name of the file that determines the name of my computer?
i'm getting tired of "myname" or whatever the default is....

thanks for the help
