I would agree that the place for bind-8 is in the base distribution, and
would hope to see it there as soon as possible. But what about all the
existing FreeBSD installations?

Bind-4 is now deprecated, and according to the ISC "You should be using
BIND-8". I think a bind-8 port is perfectly valid, and the question of
documentation is therefore appropriate for this list.
