Hi. I got FreeBSD 2.2.7 and I installed it. However, I am having what it seems to be a major problem. Because I can't run X Right after the system probing, I get following message Additional routing options:. recording kernel -c changes additional deamons: syslogd syslogd: bind: can't assign requested address syslogd: child pid 77 exited with return code 1 I get this every time when I boot. And after the installation, I started X for testing. After that I got a mail with following content. From Cron Daemon To Root Subject: cron <root@myname> /usr/sbin/newsyslog X-Cron-Env: <SHELL=/bin/sh> X-Cron-Env: <PATH=/etc:/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin> X-Cron-Env: <HOME=/root> X-Cron-Env: <LOGNAME=root> X-Cron-Env: <USER=root> newsyslog: can't open /var/run/ syslog.pid pid file to restart a daemon: No such file or directory And when I starx or xinit I get following error messages. _X11TransSocketUNIXConnect: Can't connect: errno = 2 _X11TransSocketUNIXConnect: Can't connect: errno = 2 _X11TransSocketUNIXConnect: Can't connect: errno = 2 _X11TransSocketUNIXConnect: Can't connect: errno = 2 _X11TransSocketUNIXConnect: Can't connect: errno = 2 _X11TransSocketUNIXConnect: Can't connect: errno = 2 _XSERVTransSocketCreateListener: failed to bind listener _XSERVTransSocketINETCreateListener: ...Socket CreateListener() failed _XSERVTransMakeAllCOTSServerListeners: failed to create listener for tcp Fatal server error: Failed to establish all listening sockets giving up. xinit: Interrupted System call (errno 4):unable to connect to X server xinit: No such process (erro 3): Server error I have no clue what is worng(Since I relatively new at UNIX stuff.) I really appreciate some help. This never happened with 2.2.6. Thanks a lot! To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
