FreeBSD barryf.dircon.co.uk 2.2.7-RELEASE FreeBSD 2.2.7-RELEASE #:Wed Jul 22 08:48:29 GMT 1998 root@builder.cdrom.com : /usr/src/sys/compile/GENERIC i386 I have been using FreeBSD since august, and I have the KDE desktop installed and run browsers grail, netscape, Mosaic and lynx, I am using a single standalone PC at home with no connections to any network. My problem is that when I try to connect to my isp via modem ( I dial in using the pppd facility on KDE ), the line holds up to timeout(300 sec) but I am not able receive or send any data, the grail browser says there are socket errors i.e. socket error instance at 35fc20>), 377c00>), 38cd80>), I have also installed and run the socket package but to no avail. My isp does not require PAP, CHAP or any complicated script so I have the KDE pppd dialler set to terminal and filled in as below. expect login send login ID expect password send *********** expect protocol send ppp with arguments -deflate, defaultroute and interface, and the /etc/ppp/options file empty - as KDE's manual. I have no firewall software configured or being used. I noticed that file /etc/inetd.conf does not have a line for http is that significant?.
