Precisely my point.  You weren't around back then, so someone needs
to yell it loud enough it'll sink in.

This statement serves to illustrate only that you have a profound lack
of understanding of what FreeBSD is.  It is not just an operating
system, or even just a "project."  It is a community, and a part of
an even larger BSD community of people who give their time and talents for
something they believe in.  The Daemon isn't just "marketing material,"
he's a mascot, an essential piece of what BSD is about.  Until you 
understand this, you will NOT make a good spokesman for this community.
