Those of us that don't want/need a flashy GUI know how to install what something else (I use olvwm, BTW, which is only slightly less basic than twm) but newbies, especially Windows users, don't, and they will quite likely form a negative opinion of FreeBSD based on what the default setup is compared to Win95 (first impressions count and all that).
