I haven't tried writing any code for Swing yet.  I got discouraged
by the performance of the demos - although I was very impressed
with the general appearance and style of the various widgets.

Hopefully a JIT will appear soon.

I have.  I was impressed with how TCL/TK apps will port with very
few changes.  You just have to be careful with file references;
most other things seem transparent.
