Hi David, Now, a week after the discussion, what do you think about my proposal of the "g77" link under /usr/bin? IMHO, the following facts are all good reasons for creating the link: - the output of "f77 -V", "f77 --version", "man f77", and "info g77"; - our Fortran compiler _is_ GNU Fortran, i.e., g77; - there are configure scripts which [legitimately] look for g77 when instructed to use the GNU Fortran compiler; - we already have a "gcc" link. I understand (and agree) your arguments against Gfoo, but I think that the benefits of the g77 link are worth the "sacrifice" (gsacrifice?) :-) Regards, -- JMA ***** Jose M.
