This is an OpenPGP/MIME signed message (RFC 2440 and 3156) --Apple-Mail-39-908150569 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; delsp=yes; format=flowed Hi guys, I just walked a friend through a fresh FreeBSD 6.2 and GNOME installation. May I suggest to add a note that after setting gnome_enable="YES" in rc.conf as per http://www.freebsd.org/gnome/docs/faq2.html#q1 you need to invoke the startup-script as root? And rephrase "This will enable services such as GDM, HAL, D-BUS, and Avahi" to "...on subsequent system startups" (sounds awful, but will do and is precise). This is not obvious to people new to BSD. I strongly suggest to move the gnome_enable bit in front of the section on "Make GNOME 2.18 start when X starts."
