The port for mysql-3.23 doesn't work on 3.x anymore you have to build manually or upgrade to FreeBSD 4.3 I recomend upgrading FreeBSD instead of wasting time with this. There are a lot of security holes in 3.4 that have been fixed in 4.3 New ports is no longer supported on the 3.x branch so upgrading your applications will need more and more work.
