ok. so if i understand this correctly, the ideal setup for a collection of FreeBSD boxes would be to have an nfs server that itself is built without CPUTYPE, which has /usr/obj (for itself, without CPUTYPE) /usr/obj-486 /usr/obj-586 /usr/obj-686 (etc) all built separately via "make MAKEOBJDIRPREFIX=/usr/obj-[456]86" with the appropriate CPUTYPE set. then on the client boxes, simply mount the appropriate obj dir and do make installworld. is this the correct (and optimal) solution ? thanks in advance. > You *MUST* for 4.3 use a HOST SYSTEM compiled for the LOWEST processor > you want to installworld to. > > There is a few places (strip for one) that link in /usr/lib/libc.a and > NOT the one from /usr/obj/... > > This is on the list of things to be fixed POST-4.3, but will be true in > 4.3-RELEASE. > > This was discussed right after Kris Kennaway added the CPUTYPE support > for RELENG_4, and I ran into it.
